Why the Vice Chancellor of UNN wants every student to create a blog
Recently around the University environment, it has been confirmed that the University administration wants all students to create a blog (compulsorily) without which they won't be able to update their student webometrics.
Most students are confused as to the reason why this was made compulsory, some see it as undue advantage by the authorities.
These are the reasons for the webometrics :
1) The latest Webometrics ranking released last year (2016) has ranked the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, as the best university in the country and has placed
the same institution among the best 1,500 universities in the world.
2) The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ozumba, is determined to make the UNN the best in Africa and among the top 10 in the world. That will happen
sooner than later
3) UNN was ranked 7th in Nigeria and 82nd in Africa, and had no
trace in the global rating under Prof. Benjamin Ozumba had introduced a- publish-and-be-paid policy to encourage academicstaff in engaging in impact factor-based researches.
3) The aim of the Ranking is to improve the presence of the academic and research institutions on the Web and to promote the open access publication of scientific results.[1] The ranking started in 2004 and is updated every January and July. Today it provides Web indicators for more than 12,000 universities worldwide.

The truth remains that it shouldn't be a compulsory issue for the students because not all students are bloggers and everyone has what they are good at..
